Nature N.S. 2011 Annual General Meeting Report

Nature NS 2011 Annual General Meeting Gaelic College,

St. Anne’s Bay, CB June 3-5, 2011

The 2011 Nature NS AGM could be described as a naturalist’s social event with educational presentations, field excursions and a short AGM meeting. The Gaelic College at St. Anne’s provided a wonderful setting for these events with great hospitality and nature just steps away.
Jim O’Brien of the Bras d’Or Stewardship Society (BSS) organized the weekend with NNS executive help. The BSS also graciously sponsored two post-graduate students to attend the NNS weekend, Jennifer MacPhee from Sydney and Molly Simon from Antigonish.

The weekend began on Friday night with a wine and cheese reception and traditional music played by Otis Tomas and Rocky Shore. Pre-breakfast birding was lead by Dave Harris on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

A 1998 AGM Photograph

I found this photograph in my files. It is interesting to look at it to see how many of those that were in Antigonish in 1998 when it was taken were also at the 2010 AGM in Sherbrooke. We were 12 years younger then!!! It also shows who the active members then that have dropped away from the Federation of Nova Scotia Naturalists (Nature N.S.)

Members of the Nature Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Nature Trust and the St.Mary's River Association gathered in Sherbooke to meet and share information on the May 28, 29 and 30th weekend. We had three distinct types of days: Friday was cool, sunny but cool; Saturday was beautiful with sunshine and warmth; Sunday was rainy but cleared for the field trips. The first event was a wine and cheese party at the St. Mary's River Association's Centre and Museum hosted by Nature N.S.
